Tribal Solar Accelerator Fund

In what is quite possibly my proudest professional project, I am absolutely thrilled to share that over the last year, I founded the Tribal Solar Accelerator Fund at GRID Alternatives.

Our mission is to catalyze solar energy and expand solar job opportunities in tribal communities across the United States.

Our vision for Indian Country is a transition to energy sovereignty that is educational, entrepreneurial, and completely renewable.

The Fund is GRID Alternatives' first grant-making initiative and is seed funded by Wells Fargo as part of their recent philanthropic initiative to support American Indian tribes.

This effort is entirely led by tribal members and I am incredibly honored to work with Tanski Clairmont, whom I have hired to lead the Fund and all of our current and upcoming programs. For our grant-making program, we have established a review committee of 10 reviewers, a mix of which are renewable energy experts and diverse tribal community members (such as an artist, elder, etc.).

We have spent the last several months in outreach, spreading the word about the Fund, and currently are reviewing 44 applications totaling $7.23M in project funding requests. We also plan to launch a Tribal Energy & Entrepreneurship Incubator in summer 2019 and a Tribal College and University partnership program in fall 2019. Stay tuned for more exciting developments!
